In 1967, Dr. James M. Duncan founded San Antonio Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Associates, P.A. (SAOMSA) to provide the citizens of San Antonio with personalized oral surgery care, exceptional results, and pioneering dental implant solutions. Over the years, SAOMSA became a truly unique practice where surgeons combined their collective experience to deliver the best outcomes for patients.
In 2008, Dr. James B. Mazock assumed leadership of SAOMSA. He dedicated himself to growing the original homegrown practice from a one-office, two-doctor operation into a three-office, three-doctor practice—always centered on the needs of patients. Building upon the legacy of Drs. Duncan and Westwood, Dr. Mazock and his family poured their hearts into ensuring superior, individualized care at a fair and reasonable cost.
In 2025, Dr. Mazock sold his interest in SAOMSA and launched a new, small, family-owned and operated independent practice: Lone Star Oral & Facial Surgery. His mission remains the same—to treat every person who walks through the door with the same respect and compassion he would offer to family and friends. While the name may have changed, the vision and values of the original practice live on.
